Pushing the Pile: A CBS Sports NFL Podcast

JJ Watt and the Texans have decided to mutually part ways after 10 seasons. Watt now hits the open market with plenty of potential suitors. On this emergency episode, Will Brinson and John Breech break down the future Hall of Famer's tenure in Houston and what could be next as he tries to add a ring to his resume. The Steelers are an obvious landing spot with both of his brothers already on the team, but a lot of other organizations would love to add Watt. And what does this mean for the trade timeline of Deshaun Watson? All that and more on this 🚨 episode.

The 2020 NFL season ended just a few days ago, but we're already starting to turn our attention to 2021. It promises to be an eventful one with multiple star quarterbacks presumably on the move. On this episode, Ryan Wilson and John Breech set the table for what to expect in the coming months. Last year, the league calendar was hit by COVID-19, impacting the draft, offseason workouts, the preseason and more. Will we get some sense of normalcy this year? Breech shares his thoughts on the salary cap and the probable 17-game season. Yes, we said we're looking ahead but we had to briefly look back at the epic Bucs' Super Bowl parade. Then, the guys shift their attention to player movement as Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson have yet to be traded. And we have to welcome a new name to the mix. Could Russell Wilson legitimately be available? Let's not forget about Dak Prescott who leads a packed free agency class. This is just the beginning of our offseason coverage!

The Bucs continued their Super Bowl celebration with a boat parade through Tampa on Wednesday and let's just say that the team, and especially Tom Brady, enjoyed themselves. We got to see TB12 in rare form (4:55). Also in rare form - Will Brinson and Tyler Sullivan on this episode. Sully joined us to share his thoughts on his favorite team's former quarterback capturing another Lombardi Trophy (that he had no issue tossing across the water). There's reason to be confident, but the level of confidence the Bus are showing seems unique. That doesn't deter Tyler from ranking them #1 in his way-too-early 2021 NFL Power Rankings. Who follows the champs? Listen to find out. Here's a hint though: it's not the team they just beat in the Super Bowl. The guys cover Sully's Top 5 teams (14:00) and Bottom 5 (35:30) teams as we barely crack mid-February and are 7 months from real football again. But it's the NFL, so never too early to look ahead.

Tuesday was a sad one in the NFL as one of the league's all-time winningest coaches, Marty Schottenheimer, passed away at the age of 77. Will Brinson spends a few moments remembering the coach famous for Marty Ball (0:00). Then, he welcomes on Jared Dubin to discuss another unhappy quarterback. Russell Wilson is frustrated with the Seahawks (as reported by our own Jason La Canfora). Russ has reason to be upset but what will ultimately get accomplished? Brinson and Dubin break down the future in Seattle (6:00). Next, they turn their attention to what's next for the two teams that just played in the Super Bowl. The Bucs have crucial free agents on both sides of the ball, as the guys examine who Tampa Bay should prioritize (20:00). The Chiefs are in better shape in terms of free agency and still have Patrick Mahomes for the next decade, so it's no surprise they are the early favorite to win Super Bowl LVI (32;30).

Yes, we were live for nearly 10 hours on Super Bowl Sunday, but even amidst all that streaming, there were things we didn't get the chance to discuss regarding the Bucs dominant performance over the Chiefs. That's what the Pick Six Superfriends are here to do on this day-after edition of Pick Six. Will Brinson, Ryan Wilson and John Breech offer a deeper dive on Super Bowl LV. They focus on the defining moments of the game with a focus on the sequence of events before halftime. The game plans of Eric Beinemy and Todd Bowles are also examined as there was a clear-cut winner in that matchup of minds. Is Rob Gronkowski vs. Travis Kelce now settled? Gronk's performance may prevent Kelce from ever claiming "best tight end of all time" status. Breech sneaks in some punting talk before the guys make an effort to figure out where Tampa Bay vs. Kansas City will rank in Super Bowl history.

Tom Brady has done the unthinkable. The GOAT switched organizations after two decades and managed to take his new team to the promised land in his first season, at age 43, during a pandemic. Yep, the Bucs are champions after a 31-9 victory over the Chiefs in Super Bowl LV, as Will Brinson, Ryan Wilson and John Breech are here to recap it all. And this wasn't just a win. It was a dismantling. Tampa controlled this game on both sides of the ball, disrupting Patrick Mahomes and the defending champs. Every time Kansas City mounted a minor comeback attempt, the Bucs thwarted those efforts. Rob Gronkowski came out of retirement to catch two touchdowns and Leonard Fournette emerged from Jacksonville to play a vital role in the title-clinching performance. The Pick Six Superfriends discuss Tampa Bay's dominating effort, questionable officiating calls, the MVP award, legacy and much more. Bruce Arians and his coaching staff deserve a ton of credit as do the players. Meanwhile, Andy Reid did not win off the bye, much to the dismay of the unofficial Pick Six jingle. The Chiefs' pass catchers were underwhelming, the offensive line was in shambles and the defense couldn't hold up. That's a recipe for disaster and that's what it turned into on Sunday. Tampa took advantage and are now Super Bowl LV winners.

John Breech joins Will Brinson to break down his 3 favorite kick props for Super Bowl LV, like only he can. Breech picks a side for "both teams to make field goals of 35 yards or longer". He also provides some captivating stats for Harrison Butker and Ryan Succop's extra points and let's you know what distance to target for a first FG prop!

We're turning over the podcast for a special occasion and a special episode. Broadcasting legend Lesley Visser takes the reins from Will Brinson and welcomes on Hall of Famer and Super Bowl hero Marcus Allen for a lengthy chat on one of the most famous runs in football history. Marcus recalls the vivid details of that "17 Bob Trey 0" call that cemented his place in Super Bowl folklore. He continues to discuss the personalities on that Raiders team, the best defenders he ever matched up against and how the game has changed over the years. Allen also addresses the ugly end to his Raiders tenure but expresses that he doesn't hold a grudge against Al Davis or the organization. We hear about his time in Kansas City and his thoughts on Super Bowl LV. Thanks to Lesley and Marcus for this addition to the Pick Six feed!

The Pick Six Superfriends have been making bold predictions all postseason, and that doesn't stop on this episode. But Will Brinson, Ryan Wilson and John Breech also layer in some relatively normal predictions for Super Bowl LV. Of course, Breech first targets a kicking prop & prediction. Wilson shows love for an old Pick Six centerpiece, Sammy Watkins. And Brinson thinks the Honey Badger (or Tyrann Muh-thigh-eww as John would say) is poised for a big night. The most points ever scored in a Super Bowl is 75, and one of our guys think that record is in jeopardy. They also think one of Jerry Rice's longstanding records could fall on Sunday. Join the guys for this complete Super Bowl preview filled with predictions!
