The temple has been rebuilt, the walls of Jerusalem remade, but all is not well with the Jewish people. There is drought, their crops aren't growing, but more than that their hearts have grown far from God. And even though they've restarted offering sacrifices to him, they're just going through the motions. What is going on with God's people and what message has God sent Malachi to bring to them?

This week we take a look at the story of the prophet Elijah. The most well known part of Elijah's life is when he faces the prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel. But what is not as well known is what happens the very next day. Elijah is overcome with fear because Queen Jezebel threatens his life. And after several days of running, Elijah kind of just gives up. He tells God he doesn't even want to live anymore. How can Elijah go so quickly from such a great victory over the prophets of Baal to despairing life itself?

This week we take a look at the Israelites entrance into the Promised Land. It's finally happening after 40 years in the wilderness, God's promise to Abraham is being fulfilled. Something that we need to understand though is that this land is filled with people. God is calling the Israelites to take over this land. How do we understand this? This week we take a deep dive into the lives of the Israelites after the exodus. God is leading them to the Promised Land. He is visibly leading them as a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. The Israelites have also seen the power of God demonstrated before them when the plagues came and led to their freedom. So why then do they fall into complaint and discouragement in the wilderness? How could they let hopelessness fill their hearts after seeing first hand God's power and salvation? And how do we, today, not let hopelessness or discouragement fill our hearts like the Israelites did?
