In April of 2024 our class went to Washington DC, where we stayed for three days and two nights. We met members of congress, staffers, and political consultants. We also took numerous tours through major governmental buildings as well as museums. This podcast is a reflection on our trip and our experiences.

For the third year in a row we are covering the Q studio Winter Pageant. This year the classes K-9th performed a variety of different things from singing to storytelling. We have once again recorded the pageant and compiled all the recordings into one podcast.

Over the last few weeks the third and fourth graders have been working on a group research project in Native Peoples. This unit we studied three Mesoamerican civilizations called the Olmec, Maya and Aztec. Each group had to research various facts about the assigned civilizations by using resources such as the internet and books found at the Sunnyside Public Library. Together they worked on a poster where all the information was put into detailed paragraphs describing the various elements of the civilization like agriculture, homes, beliefs, art, clothing and games.

They were tasked with finding information about the Olmec arts/crafts, homes/tribes, and sports.

Over the last few weeks the third and fourth graders have been working on a group research project in Native Peoples. This unit we studied three Mesoamerican civilizations called the Olmec, Maya and Aztec. Each group had to research various facts about the assigned civilizations by using resources such as the internet and books found at the Sunnyside Public Library. Together they worked on a poster where all the information was put into detailed paragraphs describing the various elements of the civilization like agriculture, homes, beliefs, art, clothing and games.

Together they found information about the Mayan beliefs and traditions as well as the sport they played.

For our final group, Ada and Gabriel were assigned the categories of agriculture, traditions and beliefs and well as fun and games. They found out a lot about the slash and burn technique to nourish the soil for crops.

The trio of researchers had to collect information about the Aztec Empire’s tribes, music, clothing and crafts.

Food/agriculture, clothing, and beliefs and traditions were categories they found about the Olmecs.

In this podcast episode produced by Abigail, Annelie, Elijah, and Kentaro, we take a look at both Lenape and Dutch views on the “sale.” We explore their differing perspectives on trade and exchange of land, and how these perspectives contributed to their contrasting understandings of this historic event.

The Winter Pageant podcast was compiled and produced by the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders of the Q StudioLab. The podcast documents what happened in the 2022 Winter Pageant. This includes the Kindergarten song performance and their Winter Wonderland, the 1st graders who played the role as mad scientists who did experiments, and the role that the 2nd and 3rd graders played as musicians for the Lenapé Creation myth play. We will also describe the storyteller and lead musician’s (Una Clancey and Alyssa Reit) thoughts about the story and their performance, and we will talk about the 4th grader’s vignettes or short stories that they acted out.
