Who is Jesus, really? Is He simply a great teacher, a prophet, or someone chosen by God? Or is He something far greater?

In Luke 9, Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a mountain, where they witness something extraordinary. For a brief moment, the glory of Jesus is revealed, Moses and Elijah appear, and the voice of God declares, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.”

The Transfiguration reveals a truth that changes everything: Jesus isn’t just God’s chosen Messiah. He is God in the flesh. And when we truly recognize who He is, it should change the way we live.

In this message, we discover what it means to recognize Jesus for who He really is, listen to His voice above all others, and follow Him wherever He leads.

When Jesus feeds thousands of people with just five loaves and two fish, He does far more than satisfy their hunger. He uses an impossible situation to teach His disciples a powerful lesson about faith, obedience, and trusting in His provision. In Luke 9:10–17, we see that Jesus can take what little we have and use it to make a tremendous difference in the lives of others. Rather than simply meeting the needs of the crowd Himself, Jesus invites His disciples to participate in the miracle, providing everything they need to accomplish what He has asked them to do. Through this incredible moment, we’re reminded that God doesn’t just provide for us—He desires to provide through us, using our willingness to serve others as an opportunity to grow our faith and deepen our understanding of who He is.

Jesus didn’t just call the twelve—He equipped them and sent them. They were told to go without the resources they would normally depend on, trust God to provide, proclaim the good news, and remain faithful even when people rejected their message.

In Luke 9:1–9, we’re reminded that Jesus still calls His people to kingdom work today. We don’t have to be capable enough on our own, control how others respond, or guarantee the results. Our responsibility is to trust the One who sends us and be obedient to what He has called us to do.

Herod heard about Jesus and became interested in Him. The disciples heard Jesus and obeyed Him. The question for us is the same: Are we merely interested in Jesus, or are we actually willing to obey Him?

In Luke 8:40–56, Jesus encounters two desperate people: a woman who has suffered for twelve years with an illness no one could heal, and a father whose twelve-year-old daughter is dying.

One woman is considered unclean. One girl is beyond healing because death has already come. But neither is beyond the authority of Jesus. The woman reaches out to Jesus in faith and is made clean. Jairus is told not to be afraid, but to keep believing. And when Jesus takes the little girl by the hand, even death must obey Him.

Luke continues to show us who Jesus is: the One with authority over creation, evil, disease, uncleanness, and death itself. And these stories are more than accounts of two people Jesus helped. They are pictures of the Gospel. Through Jesus, the unclean are made clean and the dead are raised to new life.
