On today’s #LockdownCommunity Ladles of Love Non-profit Organisation (NPO) broke the world record for making the most sandwiches in an hour to feed over 300 000 people. The organisation aimed to make 125 000 sandwiches but ended up making 304 583 sandwiches which exceeded the South African record by 18 000 and the world record by 68 000. It’s time to profile solution-driven members of our society! We’re living in a time where teachers are navigating through this COVID-19 storm, and whilst the debate about school closures rages on two friends are building a new way for their peers to shape young minds. Pretoria teacher, unionist and education activist Kabelo Mahlobogwane and his colleague Bonang Motsapi are busy building their very own online application to help teachers mark their work. The Marking App has the financial backing of the Trevor Noah Foundation.

This past week, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that an investigations centre has been set up to probe all alleged corruption related to COVID-19 funds. Ramaphosa said different arms of the state such as the Financial Intelligence Centre, Hawks, SIU and NPA will work together on the investigations. The president said investigations into the distribution of food parcels, social relief grants, the procurement of personal protective equipment and other medical supplies, and the UIF special COVID-19 scheme have already begun.

As the local restaurant trade continues to take strain amidst the Covid-19 crisis, UCook has launched a new initiative aimed at rescuing some of these ailing outlets.

UCook for Restaurants will see the brand teaming up with restaurants and chefs to bring their quintessential flavours into people’s homes. Each week UCook will offer a specific restaurant's featured dish, and with each dish ordered, a portion of the revenue will go directly to the restaurant. “It’s undeniable that amongst all the chaos caused by Covid-19 and lockdown, hospitality, and particularly restaurants, has been one of the commercial sectors hardest hit,” says UCook CEO David Torr.
