In this special episode of Queertowne, Mase sits down with our producer Kristen to revisit some of their favorite moments from the past year.
Just in time for the winter holigays, Mase, Javi and Kristen examine our thoughts and anxieties heading into the busiest time of the year and how our personal backgrounds inform how we engage in holiday activities. Javi walks us through his family's trip to El Salvador over Thanksgiving and why he's grateful for alone time. Mase shares an update on his dating life and how he's trying to frame his outlook on another series of dating app updates. All of us share our favorite Christmas movies and why our first beverage sponsor made this a conversation to remember.
In this episode of Queertowne, Mase sits down with Jen Parkhill and Damian Joseph Quinn, two long-term friends who've been collaborating on a short film called Honey & Milk for the past three years. During this wide-ranging conversation, JP (they/she) and Dame (he/she/they) open up about their collaborative partnership, how they curated the right team to bring this project to the finish line, and why telling this story changed them. We also discuss the necessity of queer friendships and how they've informed our creative endeavors, as well as the subsequent internal journeys cultivated along the way. This is a very special, very warm episode folks. Enjoy.
Today's episode of Queertowne features Austin's prevailing rock and roll glamour boy: Caleb De Casper, a classically trained vocalist and pianist who’s bringing glam rock and dark synth pop to stages across the country. Caleb (he/they) chatted with Laura, Mase and Kristen about his set at ACL this fall, what happened when the City of Austin declared April 21 to be Caleb De Casper Day, and who inspired him to become the artist he is today. We also touch upon the beauty of being vulnerable in public spaces, how Caleb's confidently exploring their gender fluidity on stage, and where the music industry is at in terms of queer artists defining their own narratives.
To celebrate the fifth anniversary of Queertowne's live show, we held our first ever live recording of the podcast during ColdTowne Theater's 16th anniversary celebration. Once nestled up in front of our live studio audience, the QT gang sets out to make the safe space for anti-swifties, Javi makes a not at all bitter Negroni Sbagliato, Laura regales the crowd with world cup penguins and other lesbian tales, and Mase get's spicy during Queertowne Quiz Time. Buckle up for a hilariously sexy time on this episode of QT, where every topic is gay so don't even ask.
For our Season 2 premiere, Mase, Laura and Kristen sit down with Trace Thurman of the popular podcast Horror Queers. Trace (he/him) is an award winning podcast host, freelance writer, and film critic who visited Queertowne shortly before relocating with his husband from Austin to Colorado. We discuss Trace's thoughts on his time in Austin, his favorite scary movies with queer elements, and why the collective fascination with Final Girls is paramount to understanding the horror genre. Laura opens up her initial experiences in LA and how she's adapting to her new home. We also debut our new game show called Queertowne Quiz Time! Laura and Trace compete to answer a series of increasingly loaded questions, with Mase as the devious question writer and asker, and K Wash judging the answers and awarding a winner. Giggles ensue.
For Queertowne's Season 1 Finale, Mase, Laura and Javi compete to see who can ask the highest, most stoner-iest question. Giggles ensue.
