Sometimes our first assumption, when unwelcome circumstances present themselves in our lives, is that we're being punished for something. We may whine, complain, and ask God or ourselves, "What am I being punished for?" as if God is some unpredictable and unfair parent who relishes the opportunity to inflict pain on His children. This isn't the image of God we're presented with in the Bible. In fact, we are often presented with a very different image of Him, one of incredible patience, mercy and compassion. Maybe it's time to scrutinize this assumption a little bit, making sure our thoughts about God line up with the way He presents Himself to us. Listen in!
Questions from today's episode: Are there circumstances in your life right now that you've been assuming are punishment from God? Bring these circumstances and assumptions before Him. Then, with an open heart, listen for what His Spirit might be speaking to you in the midst of your circumstances. Perhaps it is discipline. Perhaps it isn't. Either way, respond to His invitation to find comfort and healing in His presence!
