  • Episode #38: Raising Body Confident Kids with Emma Wright

In today's episode, I talk with Emma Wright, who is a family body confidence consultant based in New Zealand.

Emma shares with us her own story of growing up in a diet household and the negative effects it had on her. Later, becoming a mom herself, she saw that she was parenting in the same way, and realized she could not continue this cycle all over again, so she learned how to make a positive impact in a thin ideal world.

Emma give us practical tools that we can start doing today to help our children - specifically with the language we use to talk about bodies and food. These tools are super simple, but go against the norms we have in our head, so we have to do some reprogramming in our brains.

If we want to get rid of diet culture and all that comes with it, a great way to start is with our children. But Emma also reminds us that actions speak louder than words, and parents have to do be open to working on the way they treat their own body and their personal relationship with food so kids can follow their example.

Emma is currently writing a book, giving ten principles to raise body confident children, and you can pre-order her book through her Kickstarter Campaign that's going on this month!

Whether you are a parent, or simply have kids in your life, you will definitely want to learn from Emma on how you can best help your children learn to love their bodies and trust their food choices.

  • Episode #37: Assertiveness with Alessandra Patti

In today's episode, I talk with Alessandra Patti, an assertiveness coach based in Zurich, Switzerland. Alessandra is originally from Italy, and in the last five years has changed her career to become a coach and consultant who works with clients on assertiveness and learning to speak up. She says this new career is one of the loves of her life, right up there with reading and salsa dancing.

Having come from a giving culture that didn't prioritize speaking up, she knew she wanted to be someone who could speak her mind and set her own strong boundaries. Having learned and practiced assertiveness and boundaries herself, she created a methodology and began coaching others.

Alessandra says, "You can use your assertiveness to choose your own health and to prioritize your own wellbeing."

Something that can help anyone seeking to be more assertive is to put a stop to their own negative self-talk. Create boundaries for negative thoughts, and refuse to allow them to dominate your mental life. After all, freedom can only be gained if you believe you truly deserve it.

Alessandra also shares the fundamental belief that you are unique and special; even if you have something you want to change about yourself or your body. Believing in your sense of worth is vital for being able to achieve what you desire.

Alessandra provides so many practical exercises you can do to change your mindset and your actions, and I can't wait for you to try them out!

  • Episode #35: Self-Love & Endometriosis with Melanie Watkins

In today's episode, I talk with Melanie Watkins, the owner of a wellness events company - hosting, catering, and teaching yoga at different events in Zurich, Switzerland.

Melanie shares that her goal is to inspire people to move, eat and live from a place of self-love rather than self-loathing. She believes that people are enough just as they are, and that eating well can be a celebration of health rather than the result of restrictions or fear.

According to Melanie, her own self-care is more mental than physical; allowing herself to be unapologetically who she is is a form of self-care and self-love. Instead of trying to behave in a certain way in order to be loved or accepted, she's chosen to be herself and to be free within that. She wants to enjoy guilt-free living, and to enjoy all of what life has to offer.

She says, "I weigh more now than I've ever weighed, I eat more than I've ever eaten, and I'm happier now than I've ever been."

While sharing about her endometriosis, she shares that chronic pain alters the nervous system, adrenals, mental health, sleep and more. So much of your life is impacted, including even your body's ability to digest food. She finds that yoga has given her the most relief, of all the things that she has tried. But also one of the most important things she does for herself when pain takes over is to let herself rest and feel the all the feelings, knowing that it's not doing any good to pretend.

Melanie shared so much wonderful insight with us, but she shared a particular gold nugget about forgiveness and I'm excited for you to hear more and start practicing it today after you listen.
