  • What does it mean to be an innovator?
    being an innovator means that you have to be a non-conformist. You have to think about to what degree you’re not gonna conform and by how much. You also have to think about what aspects in your life you’re not gonna conform to the norms. Further, you never quite know whether you’re actually doing the right thing. The only thing that I can say is that you have to practice being an innovator in managing the motions that you feel when you’re doing that.

    I discuss how coming up with scientific findings is not necessarily about coming up with facts, but is much more about storytelling. You have to come up with a convincing story that other people will believe, and to get through gate keepers within science.

  • For parents that have young kids.
    it’s important to remember that when you have young kids at home to give yourself some leeway. Stop being so difficult on yourself. These moments are the things that you can remember. I looked back and I remember the number of times and I actually snuggled with my kids compared to the number of times I was in my office. I’ll never remember the times have been my office.

    I talk about whether we should be aspirational education and think about reforms to education that might improve being more aspirational. I use the example of take your kid to work day to think about existing systematic biases that might exist.
