  • The biggest perk of research life.
The biggest perk for research life is the facilities that you get to go explore. The ability to look at beautiful architecture and as well be a part of nature on many university campuses and institution campuses is one of the biggest perks that research life provides.

  • Failure: should we be celebrating it?
I discuss whether we should be celebrating failure. Failure is where you perform below what you expected you were going to perform. In short, when you experience failure it sucks. But managing this experience of failure requires you to grind through it, or manage failure in an incremental slow way. Instead of experiencing a catastrophic failure, think about ways that you can minimize the extent of the feeling of failure that you were going to feel.

  • How do you create organizations that you have an emotional attachment to?
I think about creating organizations in which you have an emotional attachment to, and that we have positive feelings whenever anybody talks about them. Companies and organizations like Disney, the United Nations, and google have an emotional vision in her head.
I talk about how I wish to build some of these ideas into the R3ciprocity Project. In my view, it will help to make work more fun, and also give people home and feel a sense of belonging.

  • Strategizing is often not helpful
The idea behind “strategizing,” where you are pushing to get ahead by doing some competitive actions is often not helpful.
It often creates nasty behaviors, and does not make you feel good inside. Thinking about your position relative to others often makes me feel very down.
A better way to frame strategy is thinking about how you can be helpful to others, and at the same time trying to capture a bit of the benefit that you’re creating for others.
It is really about serving other people, not about elbowing your way to the top. It is not about having a short supply and being in a fixed environment.
Strategy is about thinking of new ways that you can grow the environment so that everybody else benefits.
instead of thinking about ways that you can tear other people down, or push past them, think about ways that you can make other people feel joy, and as a reward for what you are doing, they’re happy to pay you.
