  • Career success doesn’t change who you are as a person
so one thing that you’ll notice as you grow in your career is that who you are as a person is not gonna change that much. In my view, I’m still just the boy that I used to be many years ago.
I think what changes is how other people perceive you, and then act that you have to play to meet those expectations from others.
But, the most important thing is to remember just to be yourself, and to leverage the traits that made you who you are.

  • The Future Of Online Education
Online education likely will not work as good as one would hope. We fail to recognize that students require: 1. a coach to see the right information. 2. significant monitoring because they are human.

  • You’re never gonna know whether it’s gonna work
You’re never gonna know if it’s actually gonna work. When you start out if you have the intention that it’s gonna work, but turns out that it often doesn’t. You can stop and not try, or you can take those steps forward knowing that it is going to fail. It’s your job to keep marching forward, even if your expectation is that it’s actually going to fail.

  • Short run and long run benefits of being nice and helpful
I talk about the benefits of being nice and helpful. In the short run there’s almost always a cost of being nice, within the long run there’s likely significant benefits. We have to think about this long run and what it actually means to us as people. You might never ever see the benefits for being nice, but at least you tried.

  • Mimicking best practices
It’s important to mimic best practices. Remember that you don’t have to reinvent the wheel to absolutely everything you do. You can get inspiration from other people.

  • Everybody has their own problems
Often you’ll see people that you admire, whether it’s because of their performance or their stature. You look at them like they are heroic or superhuman.
But, what you don’t realize is that those people have their own problems.
Maybe not in what you see, bug they do in other areas. You’re only seeing one small aspect of their life. If you saw their life completely and holistically, you would seem to discover that they’re just as messed up as everybody else.
One thing that I repeat is remind myself is that everybody has their own problems. We are all human. Most of us deal with many other things in our lives.
    Don’t idolize other people.
You need to understand their complete picture, before you start thinking about how wonderful they actually are.
I guess what I’m saying is that you should learn to appreciate your own life, before you start looking to other people.
Most people are no better or worse than you, you just don’t understand the complete picture.
    Everybody sucks just like you.

  • The complete guide to personal finance and living a long and healthy happy life.
I give a lengthy and complete guide on how to live a long and healthy life, using principles related to personal finance. I talk about how everything in life is a trade-off between short run benefit in the long run benefit.
The goal is to get you to realize that living a long and healthy life is at your fingertips, and you simply have to keep applying yourself no matter what people are saying around you.

  • How to parent successful kids.
As a #Business #professor who has kids, I think about their success a lot. But, how I aim to raise them is a lot different than you think.
Raising successful kids is not about the resources that they have access to. It’s also not about the grit that they may have.
The important thing with raising kids, just like everybody else, is teaching them that real life kicks you in the gut sometimes.
And then, you work together to creating a family unit where you have an us against the world perspective. You work together as a team to “take on the world” no matter what happens to you.
You also teach that you get up and you get going no matter what, every day.
It’s not about having all of the resources and opportunities, and it’s also not about having no resources and opportunities, but it is working through all of the challenges that you might face every day.
It’s about knowing that everybody in your family unit is loved no matter who they are and what happens, even if your a family of one.
The goal is not to raise successful kids today, but it’s to get them to be successful adults when they’re 50 years old.
Success is not defined by your house cars, or money, but it’s defined by how you feel about yourself and other people around you.
Try to raise your kids and yourself well.

  • Scientists are content creators.
Scientists are essentially content creators, and understanding the fact that you are building content is important as a scientist. Research is not just about providing facts, but about telling the stories that you have as a content creator.
