We often hear that colleges and universities are being run by #administrators, and universities are to client centric.
However, are they? We need to consider what it means to run a modern organization. When you are constrained by revenue sources, you have to think about gaining efficiencies either through labor or through technology.
While many new technologies can that can change higher education (eg. ask anyone about Zoom), we are often constrained by social norms, in terms of what is the expectation of education.
That’s that only means that we can improve efficiencies through labor.
As a #management professor, I believe that managers actually do improve the efficiency of organizations. In the university context, these are administrators and they know I don’t only improve the efficiency of the current organization, but they often grow it, and think about different revenue sources that can provide more value in the long run.
I ask this. Can you think of a growing well-functioning country that does not have a stable higher education system?
Higher education is essential for the economy, but it’s difficult to measure.
