On this weeks episode of the Rising Star, host Langley Austin dials up one of the nicest people in short track racing, Mike Ray. Ray works the souvenir booths at both Wake County Speedway in Raleigh, NC and Southern National Motorsports Park in Lucama, NC but this weekend he'll be going racing for the first time in 22 years.
He'll be driving a car that he bought from former Eastern North Carolina racer Bruce Martin. Ray spent 12 years paying off the car while it was on layaway and another five years after getting it in his posession to get the car ready to race. He'll make his first start in the Southern Ground Pounders on Friday night and talks about the journey to get his car ready and his excitement to get behind the wheel.
Wrapping up the weekend producer Doc Love gives us a quick recap of the winners and headlines from around the region including the CARS Tour rivalry continuing, an underdog winner at Southern National Motorsports Park, a champion reclaims his turf at Carteret, a wild finish at Hickory and a mountain man tames the flat track at Langley Speedway. Plus much more.
Hitting the highlights of the last week in Late Model Stock Car racing around the region, Doc Love gives us all the details from a busy week including the Martinsville announcement, racing all over the place and a wild weekend with a nearly full moon.
Jordan Pickrel joins Rising Star Podcast host Langley Austin and tells us the story of how he got his start in racing after saving up money for five years and using a U-Haul trailer to get his car to his first few races to now competing for a championship in the Pure Stocks at South Boston Speedway and occasionally getting to drive a Late Model. He also turned an intern position with Sellers Racing into a full-time job and recently finished 8th in one of their Late Models.
We debut another new podcast to the RACE22.com Podcast Network, House Calls with Doc Love. On this episode, Doc Love calls up Limited Late Model racers Jessica Dana, who was involved in a fiery accident at South Boston Speedway on June 1, 2019. She tells Doc about what happened in the crash and after as well as her discussion with Cathy Rice, the General Manager of South Boston Speedway and when she hopes to be back in a race car.
CARS Tour Series Director Chris Ragle joins RACE22.com Founder and RACE22 Radio host Langley Austin to discuss the business of the CARS Tour's sixth Late Model Stock Car race of the 2019 season. Ragle talks about the weather, the crowd, the finish and more in an in-depth discussion on all things CARS Tour.
It was a soggy wet weekend around the southeast racing region but one race was able to be completed. The CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car series rolled into Langley Speedway for the first time and didn't disappoint with three different drivers leading at one point or another on the final lap. Plus Doc Love talks with Ryan Repko about his new NASCAR Xfinity Series ride, Philip Morris talks about chasing car count, Peyton Sellers talks about dialing in his new car and much more on this week's Weekend Wrapup.
The RACE22.com Weekend Wrap-Up gives you insight on racing all over the region. On this week's CARS Tour report we once again sit down with CARS Tour Series Director Chris Ragle and talk about their event at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, VA. We talk about the turn out, jabs between Matt Craig and Bubba Pollard on the track and on the microphone plus a wild Late Model Stock Car finish. Chris tells us why he didn't penalize Bobby McCarty for the contact with Josh Berry and what happened between Brandon Pierce and Ryan Repko that led to another non-call. Plus he tells us about getting hit in the face with pies during pre-race for charity and we look ahead to Langley Speedway and talk about the big purse bump at the July Carteret County Speedway event.
After a handful of technical difficulties on Monday and Tuesday, we didn’t have a live RACE22 Radio show but we were able to get something recorded for you guys. Langley Austin and Corey Latham jumped on the phone and talked about the weekend of racing including a wild finish to the CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car race, some smack talk from the CARS Tour Super Late Model race and some viral content from Bowman Gray Stadium.
They also recapped the racing from around the region and looked ahead to the Memorial Day weekend up ahead. We also still plan to connect with the scheduled guests from Monday night and create a podcast with them in the coming days.
