The Racers again honor one of their greats when Ashley Hayes becomes the second from women's basketball to have her jersey retired. From 2005-09, Hayes made No. 23 famous as the only multiple OVC Player of the Year honoree in program history. Inducted into the MSU Hall of Fame in 2016, Hayes' No. 23 joins Shiela Smith's No. 24 in the rafters of the CFSB Center.

What happened that day is still amazing 25 years later when the Racers took down the mighty Arkansas Razorbacks. It was an amazing time when Racer basketball great and hall of famer, Stewart Johnson, came back to Murray State for the first time since his final game in 1966. The ensuing halftime ceremony to retire his jersey No. 40 is the thing of great memories of a great Racer.
