In Murray State Football lore, one of the biggest plays in the 100-year plus history of the program icame from kicker by Shane Andrus. In 2002, the Racers hosted the No. 2 Eastern Illinois Panthers, led by quarterback Tony Romo at Roy Stewart Stadium, and by the end of the day, Andrus had his moment. He booted a 52-yard field goal on the final play to give the Racers a share of the Ohio Valley Conference title. Among those who remember that day are the Voice of the Racers Neal Bradley and EIU's Mike Bradd, MSU Head Coach Joe Pannunzio and Andrus.

In the more than 100-year history of Murray State Basketball, there are a handful of games which creates the thought "How did we just win that game?" In February of 1994, Racers' head coach Scott Edgar and his team had one of those games with OVC rival Southeast Missouri when not only did they erase an 18-point deficit with 4:31 remaining, Marcus Jones scored five points in the final five seconds as the Racers clinched another league championship. Playing for legendary coach Johnny Reagan in the early 1970s, Wurth returned to MSU as Coach Reagan‘s assistant for 11 seasons.
