Four homesteads have been torched and scores of people have sought refuge in a nearby forest at Nowalala village in Ntabankulu in the Eastern Cape. Learning has been affected in three schools, closed by the community since last month. Residents say they want a councillor of their choice who is a woman. Economists say the current political instability in the country continues to erode some of the gains that have been made in some sectors of the economy. They say although this will not be reflected in the GDP figures to be released today (06/09/16), it is putting the country and its people at a disadvantage. Student representatives at the University of KwaZulu Natal's Howard College campus have vowed to continue with their protest until the university management meets them to discuss their issues. The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal says the occupy Luthuli House protest is unnecessary. Provincial Secretary Super Zuma says members of the ANC should follow internal processes to voice their grievances. ANC youth league's national spokesperson Mlondolozi Mkhize has welcomed the decision by #OccupyLuthuliHouse organisers to discourage supporters from taking part in planned occupation of the party's headquarters. The group have attributed the ANC's dismal performance at the municipal polls to President Zuma's poor leadership and the corruption scourge afflicting government departments and state institutions. The #OccupyLuthuliHouse movement has called off its planned occupation of the ANC head quarters. The movement has urged supporters not to take part in march as they fear bloodshed. They say they will gather at Beyers Naude Square in Johannesburg, head for Luthuli House to hand over a memorandum of grievances and then leave. The group is mobilising support to call for the resignation of President Jacob Zuma and the party's entire national executive committee.
