The SABC has agreed to abide by the Independent Communications Authority's order to reverse its decisions NOT to broadcast violent protests. Last week the regulator ordered the public broadcaster to withdraw its decision to stop broadcasting video footage of violent protests. Wits University has urged that the commission of inquiry into the 'hashtag feesmustfall' campaign be fast-tracked to ensure violent protests do not erupt again this year. President Jacob Zuma appointed the inquiry to look into the feasibility of free higher education in South Africa following protests by students which began in October last year in response to an increase in university fees. Wits deputy vice-chancellor Tawana Kupe says an interim solution is needed until the commission presents it findings and recommendations. The Pretoria north regional court has heard that DA MP and former senior prosecutor, Glynnis Breytenbach and her lawyer, Gerhard Wagenaar, were aggressive when she was served with notice of suspension in 2012. This was revealed in court by NPA System Administrator, Eudele Swart, and NPA Security and Risk Specialist, Victor Xaba. Makhurupetje says the seat of the new municipality will be in Malamulele until the municipal council takes a decision on its permanent seat. This comes amid rumours that offices will be built in Vuwani, where some residents do not want their area to be incorporated into a new entity. The independent electoral commission has expressed great concern over the on-going violence ahead of the August 3rd local government elections. As many as ten ANC members including councillor candidates have been killed in politically related violence in KwaZulu Natal alone. The commission has called for maximum restraint saying its powers to deal with the violence are limited. Close to ten thousand Zimbabweans have marched through the streets of Harare in support of President Robert Mugabe. The veteran leader has been under increasing public pressure to step down.
