With Zimbabwe's elections just two years away, five smaller opposition parties have formed a coalition. The Coalition of Democrats or CODE will work together to try to unseat long serving president President Robert Mugabe. The group says its ready to work with any progressive political party that is unhappy with the state of the country and opposed to the current government. Employees of the Gupta-owned business empire have vowed to continue their services despite the likelihood of not receiving their salaries in June. Yesterday was D-Day for the Gupta- owned Oakbay business empire to make alternative arrangements following the decision by four major banks to cut all their ties with the controversial family. Modern slavery is reported to be rife in South Africa. The Global Slavery Index says there are about 250-thousand people who are subjected to commercial sexual exploitation, forced marriage and forced labour in the country. The Index also noted that South African women have been trafficked abroad, mainly to Europe. South Africa ranks 27th on the Index with Trinidad and Tobago. Trade Union Solidarity has threatened to take the Minister of Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula to the labour court over the quotas in sport. Parents are warned to take note of the homemade drug, which is a mix of codeine-based prescription cough syrup and cool drinks.It produces a feeling of euphoria. The KwaZulu-Natal Social Development Department has urged parents to be cautious and be on the look out for any behavioural changes in their children. This follows the discovery of a drug lab at Chatsworth south of Durban where drugs were produced that look similar to jelly babies sweets. It is suspected that these new drugs are aimed at primary school learners. Nonkululeko Hlophe reports.
