Fort Hare University celebrates its centenary today. Based in Alice in the Eastern Cape‚ the historic university’s alumni included the likes of late President Nelson Mandela‚ late ANC President Oliver Tambo and President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe. A New David Kramer music production " District Six Kanala" will make its world première in Cape Town this evening. Today marks 50-years since District Six was declared a whites-only area by the apartheid regime using the Group Area's Act of 1950. Thousands of people were forcefully removed to the Cape Flats and their houses, halls and bioscopes flattened. Political parties want President Jacob Zuma to tell the nation what his plans are to revive the economy. Some have also urged him to apologise for refusing for two years to adhere to the recommendations of the Public Protector on paying for non-security upgrades at his Nkandla home. Zuma will deliver the annual State of the Nation Address later this evening (thursday 11 February). His lawyers have told the Constitutional Court that he now believes the Public Protector's findings are binding. Joseph Mosia reports..

The search for the three missing Lily gold mine's staff members continues. Rescue teams remain busy underground blasting rocks and removing sand to reach the container in which the three workers are believed to be trapped. The Congress of Traditional Leaders of South African (contralesa) says Mvezo Chief Mandla Mandela cannot lead the people of Mvezo in the Eastern Cape and be a Muslim at the same time. This follows Mandla Mandela's convertion to Islam. Mandela got married Rabia Clarke, a Muslim woman and is believed to have converted to Islam late last year. Parliament says it is ready to host the President for this year's State of the Nation Address. National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete says there is adequate security to deal with any attempts to disrupt the event, as the EFF has threatened.
