National Organiser of the Socialist Youth Movement at the University of the Free State, Itumeleng Lecheko, has blamed the rector Professor Jonathan Jansen for the protest on the Bloemfontein campus. Security has been tightened on the university's Bloemfontein campus where lectures have been suspended in the wake of workers' protests the workers who are being supported by students are demanding an end to outsourcing at the institution. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says the Tlokwe by-elections in the North West province will go ahead as planned, despite the court application by independent candidates seeking the elections to be postponed. More than a thousand people are expected to vote today with special votes ahead of tomorrow's by-elections in seven wards.
