Ministers from almost 200 countries are in Paris for COP21 to hammer out a new global climate deal. A draft negotiating text was agreed at the weekend. However financing, which would help developing countries cope with the effects of climate change, has been a key sticking point at the conference. Almost 80 boys have been rescued from illegal initiation schools across Gauteng. Co-operative governance and traditional affairs department spokesperson, Motsamai Motlhaolwa, says since November 30th, a total of 59 initiates aged between 10 and 23 have been rescued from illegal initiation schools in Orange Farm, Sebokeng and Fochville. Meanwhile, in the Eastern Cape, a reported 13 initiates have died this summer initiation season. The National Prosecuting Authority will call for a minimum sentence of 15 years for Oscar Pistorius when he appears in the High Court in Pretoria this morning. The paralympian is currently on parole after being jailed for culpable homicide, but the judgement was changed to murder last week at the Supreme Court of Appeal. Victims of women abuse believe that 16 Days of No Violence against Women and Children campaign has no effect in the rural villages of the Eastern Cape. This emerged during a recent Imbizo held in Bityi oustside Mthatha organised by various departments. They say abuse cases continue unabated in far flung rural areas. They believe the solution lies in concrete partnership between law enforcement agencies and the communities to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.
