University of Cape Town's Vice-Chancellor, Max Price, says he is committed to working with police and prosecutors to have charges against protesting students at the university dropped. Price yesterday* addressed thousands of UCT students who gathered on the steps of the Jameson Hall on the university's upper campus

Nyakallo Makgoba, the son of Anglican Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, says being arrested was the last thing on his mind. He was one of the students who were arrested on Wednesday while they were taking part in the #FeesMustFall protest outside parliament. Since last week, students have been protesting at universities across the country against proposed tuition fee hikes. Nyakallo has since been released and he spoke to Sakina Kamwendo.

Learners at Westbury Secondary School feel the death of Zukisa Kela robbed them of not only a teacher, but a father and brother as well. An emotional memorial service was held on Thursday afternoon to honour the 25-year-old teacher. Kela and his friend, Sizwe Keke were drowned in the Rhodes Park dam by a gang of twelve men on Saturday night. The men had been walking through the park after a church service with their partners. Members of the KwaZulu-Natal government have visited the Mncwabe family to offer condolences and support following the brutal killing of eight family members. The eight, among them young children and pensioners, were hacked to death at eMaBheleni, Mthwalume on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast early on Wednesday morning. Its believed that the family had been accused of practising witchcraft. Nonkululeko Hlophe reports

The lawyer who is representing the University students who were arrested during a protest yesterday, Popo Mfubu says the charges of treason against the students who were arrested is an attempt to intimidate, and send a message to the students protesting with the aim to weaken the movement

Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene delivered his medium term budget policy statement as student protests broke out outside the National Assembly building in parliament. Nene's speech was delayed by at least half an hour. This was after EFF's members of parliament requested a postponement of the tabling of the mini budget in a bid to address the students concerns about university fee increases. Tshepo Mongoai reports
