The Municipal Demarcation Board has concluded its resolutions for the determination and re-determination of certain municipal boundaries. 23 per cent of the 32 cases have been concluded. This follows a request by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Pravin Gordhan with an aim to make certain municipalities more sustainable and financially viable. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Jane Thupana, Chairperson of the Municipal Demarcation Board.

President Jacob Zuma has committed his cabinet and government to respect the independence of the judiciary and to enforce court orders issued against the state. He was speaking after an unprecedented meeting with the judiciary at the Union Building last night. The judiciary requested the meeting a month ago to discuss what it called unfair attacks on the courts. Presidential Correspondent Tshepo Ikaneng reports.

Municipal Demarcation Board is sticking to it's guns regarding newly revised municipalities and wards boundaries. The board handed over the new boundaries to the Independent Electoral Commission in Pretoria. This is to allow IEC to prepare for next year's local government elections. Constant criticism of the Judiciary and authority of the courts by the Executive undermines the country's justice system and erodes public confidence, this is according to former NPA boss, Vusi Pikoli. He made the comments at the ninth annual Helen Joseph Lecture on "An Independent Judiciary" at the University of Johannesburg. The lecture coincidentally fell on the same day Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng met with President Jacob Zuma on government's open criticisms of the country's courts. Noma Bolani reports.

Archbishop Emeritus, Desmond Tutu's, doctors are pleased with his progress in a Cape Town hospital. The Arch, as he is affectionately known, was hospitalised more than a week ago. Addressing a media briefing in Cape Town, his daughter, Reverend Mpho Tutu, said her father was halfway through his intravenous treatment. Berenice Moss reports

Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Jacob Mamabolo has conceded that the current process used by the department for housing applications and issuing of tittle deeds is not reliable and is also open to manipulation and corruption. Many people in Gauteng have complained that they've been allocated houses but their houses are occupied by other people. And in some instances people who recently registered for houses are given houses whilst those who've been on the waiting list for years still don't have access to houses. Tshepo Phagane reports

Government is considering the use of sea water for human consumption. This is aimed at alleviating the strain on the country's stretched water resources. The minister of Water and Sanitation, Nomvula Mokonyane made this annoucement at World Water conference in Stockholm Sweden. 1. Producer Price Inflation (PPI) for July was released yesterday and at 3.3% it's quite a bit lower than both the June reading of 3.7%, but also than what was expected. Surely this is good news for the economy and especially for the consumer?

2. So I guess it is really that number of 12.2% increase for water and electricity that is of concern. Earlier in the week we spoke about the impact that the drought has on agricultural commodity prices and basic food. There have been calls for restrictions on the irrigation of golf courses. Higher Education and Training concerned about situation at Stellenbosch University following the release of a 32 minutes documentary where black students recount incidents of racial prejudice within the university and the town. Speaking to Sakina Kamwendo this morning Khaye Nkwanyana, spokesperson for the Department of Higher Education said, there is nothing wrong with dual education, but Afrikaans cannot be used to disadvantage student.
