EFF leader Julius Malema's fraud and corruption trial is set to begin in Polokwane today. The case relates to a 52 million rand tender awarded to On-Point Engineering in 2009. Malema's Ratanang Trust is alleged to have fraudulently benefited from the tender. The company was co-owned by Malema and his business associates and now co-accused - Lesiba Gwangwa and Kagiso Dichabe. The company allegedly misrepresented itself by claiming to have nine years experience, while it had actually been formed two months prior to the advertising and awarding of the tender. Association of Mine Workers and Construction Union, AMCU,'s members have rejected the wage offer by their employers during a mass meeting held at Sibanye Beatrix sport ground at Theunissen, in the Free State. The workers included union members from Free State, Gauteng and North West. AMCU, NUM and Solidarity have been in negotiations with the Chamber of Mines since May this year. The Chamber of Mines are representing gold producers Anglo Gold Ashanti, Evander Gold mine, Harmony and Sibanye gold in the three provinces. Maryna van Wyk reports

The Minister of Transport, Dipuo Peters has asked the Auditor General, Kimi Makwetu to to probe alleged financial mismanagement at the Passenger Rail Agency of SA. The request came amid alleged violations of the Public Finance Management Act and other related statutes regarding contracts and payments to service providers. National Police Commissioner, Riah Phiyega, has until today to write to President Jacob Zuma, and explain her fitness for office following the recommendation made the Marikana Commission. The question however is who will replace her if she is dismissed, and will it be another politician, or is it perhaps time that a career police officer takes up the mantle, seeing that all three political appointments seemingly didn't live up to the job. After a vote on Thursday in the National Assembly, Parliament has adopted revised rules, with immediate effect, dealing with disruptions in the House. The proposed rules will see unruly MPs removed from the precinct by the Parliamentary Protection Services if they refuse to leave the Chamber after being instructed to do so. The first report of the Rules Committee of the National Assembly was tabled in the House yesterday. Meanwhile, Parliament has put the head and deputy head of the Parliamentary Protection Services on precautionary suspension. Esley Philander reports.

Parliament's ad hoc committee on Nkandla has concluded that it will not call any other witnesses to appear before it. The committee was established to look into the report by the Police minister, Nathi Nhleko, on how much money President Jacob Zuma should repay for non security upgrades. Nhleko and Public Works minister, Thulas Nxesi, were called to explain their reports to the committee yesterday.
