Fighting in Burundi is intensifying. According to reports, Burundi's army has killed more than 30 rebels and 170 others have been captured in the north of the country. This comes amid increased political unrest following President Pierre Nkurunziza's bid to run for a third term. COSATU unions sympathetic to expelled general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi and NUMSA suffered massive defeats at the COSATU special national Congress. In the end it all came down to numbers - and they lost in the votes on the credentials and agenda. They pushed hard - forcing the debate to come to a vote. It was a dramatic day with the media kicked out of the congress during the heated debates - an unprecedented move in recent COSATU history. Senior political reporter Busi Chimombe reports

China has offered to develop South Africa's skills capacity in nuclear technology with no conditions. This emerged during the South Africa-China bilateral talks held in Beijing. China and Russia have surfaced as the leading bidders for our nine thousand six hundred megawatt nuclear power project. According to the deputy minister of Trade and Industry Mzwandile Masina the offer is not conditional. The talks were part of a build up ahead of an official visit by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to China. Tshepo Mongoai reports from Beijing

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni will be in Burundi's capital on Tuesday to try to bridge a political impasse that has seen two United Nations-appointed mediators fail before him. Skirmishes between the army and armed groups near the border with Rwanda, increased grenade attacks in the capital and the continued outflow of refugees to neighbouring countries has confirmed the UN view that the country is on the brink of violence. Cosatu President Sdumo Dlamini says they've put up measures to deal with possible disruptions at their two-day Special National Congress starting this morning at Midrand's Gallagher Estate. The meeting is convened at the request of a third of the labour federation's affiliates who say they are unhappy at the current leadership and its inability to implement programmes agreed to at the last ordinary National Congress in December 2012.
