South African Sign Language has been approved as the country's 12th official language. This comes after the Department of Basic Education announced that it plans on incorporating sign language as an option in the school curriculum. They say they will not move until President Cyril Ramaphosa intervenes in their protracted wage dispute. Wage negotiations between unions and mine management that are scheduled to resume today.

Ramaphosa vowed to deal with workers' grievances at Cosatu's May Day rally.

Now, mineworkers are holding him to that promise.
