Six people were gunned down at the
Enkanini informal settlement in Khayelitsha over the
weekend. This is the second mass shooting in the area
in the space of a week. Five people were killed last week
by unknown gunmen in the neighbouring Monwabisi
Park informal settlement in Endlovini. We now find out

Eskom says an incident at Koeberg nuclear power station where a technician onsite accidentally cut a wrong valve had no impact on the running unit. The incident, where the technician is said to have cut a valve on the reactor known as Unit 1, instead of the same valve on Unit 2, was reported in an internal Koeberg newsletter to staff. In its response to the incident the power utility says Koeberg's high safety measures timeously identified the error and prevented any damage being caused. It says Unit 1 has now been safely online and running, without any interruptions. Farmers near the Meul River in the Free State, have moved their livestock away from the river following a massive diesel spillage. The Meul River  was contaminated after a diesel spill when a Transnet pipeline was tampered with and fuel stolen. Farmers are concerned that the contamination of the river will affect the livestock that drink from the water. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Niel Pienaar, Safey representative of Verkykerskop farmers union.

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has concluded the high-demand radio frequency spectrum auction involving six qualified bidders. The revenue collected from the auction totaled more than R14.4 billion, which will go to the national fiscus. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Icasa chairperson Dr Keabetswe Modimoeng 

A Lenasia businessman has been rescued three days after he was kidnapped while on the way to work. Six suspects including a Mozambican national - believed to be the mastermind behind a number of kidnapping cases in Gauteng - have been arrested.
