ARTS: A theatre production called Cion will be happening at the Joburg Theatre from the 28th January to 6 February 2022 accompanied by the Soweto Gospel Choir. The production has 20 dancers and 19 musicians and it’s produced by contemporary African dance company The Vuyani Dance Company. The Seriti Institute is running a R10 million grant programme aimed at assisting Gauteng based businesses impacted by the July 2021 unrest. Mamelodi Community Radio Station in Pretoria is the latest beneficiary to be allocated over R200,000. We now speak to Harmony Khoza, Assistant Programme Manager at the Seriti Institute.

The Pentagon is putting 8500 U.S troops on heightened alert for possible deployment to support NATO forces in Eastern Europe amid tensions over a possible invasion of Russian forces into neighbouring Ukraine. However Pentagon Spokesperson John Kirby clarified that no final decision had been made about a deployment yet. He referred to the action as ensuring U.S. troops were ready as part of Washington's efforts to reassure their NATO allies.
