• QR (Quick Response) codes are actually two-dimensional barcodes that were initially developed for the automotive industry back in 1994 to expand the capabilities of standard barcodes.

• It’s much quicker to shoot the code with your smartphone than it would be to type in a long string of characters to get to a specific web page, which is why they’ve become so popular.
• QR codes are, by design, incredibly user-friendly. These days, we see them everywhere. They are on the back of consumer products, and we can scan them to get more information. They are in restaurants so we can scan them to view the menu without touching a physical menu card. They are used to enter competitions, in children’s books to access online content. They are also used by various apps to allow small business vendors to accept credit card payments.

Inspection and enforcement services has started its week-long
mega blitz inspections targeting the hospitality sector including
hotels, bed and breakfast facilities, and restaurants in the
Western Cape. Last week leader of the EFF Julius Malema visited
restaurants in Gauteng to “inspect” the ratio of local and non-
South African employees. We now speak to David Esau,
Provincial Chief Inspector.

Parents of pupils at John Marubini Primary School at Phiphidi village outside Thohoyandou, in Limpopo, have expelled a Grade 7 pupil accused of bullying. Learning and teaching was disrupted at  the school learner allegedly threatened to stab his teachers and fellow learners, demanding to be progressed to Grade 8. Mulalo Rasila allegedly held teachers hostage several times since the re-opening of schools, blaming them for his failure to progress to the next Grade. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to reporter Michael Makungo who visited the school..
