As one of the founding fathers of the kwaito genre Joe Nina in his latest single “My Love Song (Uthand’Ingoma Yam’)”, collaborates with Professor and Zakwe, two of the most significant innovators of both the kwaito and the hip-hop scene.

30 Years in the industry, 30 albums
As one of South Africa’s Kwaito pioneers, Joe Nina has also achieved great success as an Afro-soul musician, but is not limited to any of these genres.
He comes from humble beginnings in the Kwa-Themba Township in the East Rand where he was born, to becoming a mega star, owning his own recording company, writing a soundtrack for the movie Jump the gun, and starring in it by the age of 24.
Joe Nina’s father, Solomon Xaba, was a guitar and saxophone player during the heydays of Sophiatown, while his mother, Lettie, did backing vocals for his father’s band, the Shamings.

He says his parents used to take him along to shows where he was happy to learn. They would also travel as far as Swaziland, living the
musical dream.
Learning to play the drums and singing under the excellent coaching of his father, Joe Nina gradually developed and discovered his own musical talent. By age 14 he could play the piano and at 16 he announced his intentions to pursue a musical career.
Joe Nina has been on fire ever since and never looked back.

INTERVIEW: This year’s Human Rights Festival at Constitution Hill takes place online where all are free to attend at no cost. This year the festival focuses on the impact that Covid-19 has on human rights as well as the direction South Africa and the world should be taking following the pandemic. INTERVIEW: The Constitution Hill Human Rights Festival is being held as an online event this year. It started yesterday and will run until March 31. The ten-day festival is focusing on the impact of COVID-19 on human rights. 10 themes will be unpacked over the 10-day period. One of the themes is Gender Based Violence in South Africa.
