INTERVIEW: National flags are flying at half-mast from today as the country marks five days of mourning to remember and honour victims of gender-based violence and femicide. We’ll speak to Thembi Maphanga who was burnt by her boyfriend and sustained third degree burns. She lost her two-year-old daughter during the incident.

INTERVIEW: The spate of attacks on trucks continued this morning when two trucks were set alight on the N12 highway near Daveyton in Ekurhuleni. At least 25 trucks have been set alight in the past week with a driver losing his life after being shot in one incident. We’ll speak to Sifiso Nyathi, Secretary of the All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa.

Foreign truck drivers have been given an ultimatum to vacate their jobs at the beginning of December or face mass disruptions. This ultimatum was issued by the All Truck Drivers Foundation (ATDF), a group of local truck drivers advocating for 100% employment of local truck drivers. At least 20 trucks were torched last Thursday and five trucks on Saturday night, more trucks were set alight on Monday night through to the early hours of Tuesday morning. Trucks were reportedly set alight in Leondale, Germiston, and Vosloorus, with a truck driver shot before being burnt in his truck, according to SA Long Distance Truckers. We spoke to Doreen Van Rooyen, Spokesperson for the South African Long Distance Truckers AND Eastern Cape spokesperson for All Truck Drivers Forum, Michael Masimini.

The Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) is investigating allegations of racism at Brackenfell High School in Cape Town. The Commission held a media briefing this morning as result of allegations of racism that emerged in relation to the convening of a matric function for a number of Brackenfell High learners. These allegations have led to protest action outside the school, resulting in well documented incidences of violence on several occasions. We spoke to Commissioner Andre Gaum of the South African Human Rights Commission.
