The much-loved comic shot to widespread popularity during her stint on SABC’s So You Think You’re Funny in 2009 where she entered and came sixth in the competition.
She is also an accomplished writer and has written as a columnist for several community newspapers over the years. Her first Xhosa novel, Umbhodamo was published by Maskew Miller in 2013, to critical acclaim and is currently a setbook in the Eastern Cape for Grade 8 and 9.
Born in Whittlesea in the Eastern Cape, Khanyisa Bunu has always known she was funny. As a high school Geography and English teacher, a day wouldn’t go by when she didn’t get a kick out of making her students, or the teachers in the staffroom roar with laughter.
As a child, she was always the centre of attention, often regaling her family with stories of her mischievous comings and goings at boarding school.
She relocated to Johnnesburg in 2008 and in 2009, she decided to take a leap of faith and follow her talent, which saw her entering SABC 1’s reality TV show, “So You Think You Are Funny?”. Getting into the Top Six finals solidified her path, and she began to pursue a full-time career as a comedian, actress and entertainer.
