The 2019 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed. He is the 100th winner of the prize - which was awarded for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation. Ethiopia reached a peace deal with Eritrea last year, ending a 20-year military stalemate following their 1998-2000 border war. A total of 301 candidates had been nominated for the prestigious award. Chairperson of Sekunjalo Investment Holdings, Dr Iqbal Survé says the recent raids at his offices are aimed at intimidating him and discrediting his companies, because certain politicians say he cannot “control” his journalists. Dr Iqbal Survé says there is nothing untoward in the business of Sekunjalo Investment Holdings and the raid was uncalled for. He says he has been put under enormous pressure by Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan over the past few months. The Constitutional Court has ruled that Stellenbosch University's language policy which stipulates using English and Afrikaans inter-changeably as mediums of instruction is constitutionally justifiable. The former Afrikaans university says the aim of its language policy is to ensure equal access, multilingualism and integration.
