Public Enterprises Minister, Pravin Gordhan, has confirmed Phakamani Hadebe's permanent appointment as Eskom CEO. Minister Gordhan was briefing the media on changes at the boards of state-owned enterprises in Cape Town. Gordhan said Hadebe's experience at National Treasury made him a favourable candidate

Judge Bert Bam has sentenced the biological mother and stepfather of Poppie van der Merwe to life in prison at the Pretoria High Court. Louisa Koekemoer, Poppie's biological mother, and Kobus Koekemoer, her stepfather, were found guilty of murdering Poppie and abusing a 5-year-old boy back in October 2016. The pair have also been sentenced to 10 years on top of the life sentence for abusing the 5-year-old child. Louisa's lawyer Adrian Nell has asked Judge Bam that Louisa Koekemoer not be sent to prison for life, but the request was denied by Bam. Our reporter Liela Magnus was at the Pretoria High court.

Four taxi owners have been killed following a shooting in the Brakpan CBD East of Johannesburg this morning. They were allegedly shot by the occupants of a private security vehicle. Police say the taxi owners had just finished meeting in Tsakane and were on their way to a taxi association office when they were attacked. Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo gave us the latest information on these murders.

North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo, says he has decided to take early retirement amid allegations of widespread corruption in the province. Mahumapelo made the announcement at the ANC's headquarters, Luthuli House, in Johannesburg earlier today. The North West was rocked by violent protests recently with a faction of the ANC and community members calling for his resignation. Mahumapelo has outlined what he claims was long term issues of corruption in the province that preceded his administration. He also says he does not want to be accused of cracking down on counter-revolutionaries.

Social media is in a frenzy in attempting to assist rescue and help save two lives. This follows the kidnapping of a heavily pregnant woman last week in Voslorus in the East Rand. Police have confirmed that 24-year old Mbali Jiyane was reported missing by her family last week Friday. Her capturers have since sent the family a picture which has been widely shared on social media where she is in tears and her mouth tied with what appears to be a cloth. Police spokesperson at the Voslorus police station, Piet Rossouw gave an update on their investigation.

Health Workers in the north-west of the DRC are being vaccinated today, following an Ebola outbreak which has claimed 25 lives so far. Ebola causes internal bleeding and is spread quickly through bodily fluids and initially presents itself as flu. More than 11 000 people died from the disease between 2014 and 2016 in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia before it was contained. The BBC's Rebecca Kesby gave us the latest.

Parliament has described the incident that occurred during a Supersport television broadcast which involved former Springbok winger, Ashwin Willemse and rugby panelists Naas Botha and Nick Mallet as unfortunate and has called for a speedy resolution. Willemse walked off a live broadcast after expressing disdain for what he descibed as being "patronised by two individuals who played in an apartheid/segregated era". Chairperson of the committee, Beauty Dlulane says the incident has invoked much emotion and calls for investigations into the parties involved to be given space as opinions about the matter lack details.
