Classes have been suspended at the University of the Free State Qwaqwa campus. This follows students protest that led to the shutdown of the institution. Students embarked on a protest after a number of students received SMSes that they were being de-registered.

The DA has rescinded Cape Town mayor Patricia De Lille's membership. The party's Federal Executive Committee has announced the decision at a media briefing.The DA says it expects Deputy Cape Town Mayor Ian Neilson to take over as acting mayor after the DA rescinded Patricia De Lille's membership. It's not clear, however, whether De Lille will cease to be mayor unless she resigns or the city council passes a vote of no confidence in her. The DA's Federal Executive Committee says De Lille's membership ceased on the 26th of April when she publicly stated on a radio station that she would resign at the end of her legal battle with the DA. Last week, she indicated that she would go to court if the Fedex did not rule in her favour.

The missing ten-year-old girl from Mamelodi, East of Pretoria, has been found dead. Katlego Joja went missing last Thursday morning while playing at her Mamelodi West home. Her mother thought she was in the outside room with her grandmother, while the grandmother thought she was in the main house.

Home owners in Protea Glen, south of Johannesburg have vowed to stop any in attempts by group of Land invaders to occupy vacant land in the area. In what could be seen as a "face off" between Protea Glen residents and those trying to occupying the land, saw the blockading of several roads to stop those who are erecting shacks in the area. According to authorities, the group has been trying to illegally grab land for the past week, claiming they wanted the space to build their homes.

NEHAWU Shopstewards, whose members are striking at hospitals and clinics in the North West province, are meeting in Mafikeng to discuss allegations that their members are blockading entrances to hospitals in order to prevent doctors and other non-striking workers from working.

Doctors were removed from wards and theatres while conducting their duties last week.Desperate doctors in the NW province wrote a letter to provincial authorities last week calling on them to intervene.

The fate of embattled North West premier, Supra Mahumapelo remains in the balance as talks of his future by the ANC top 6 continue at Luthuli House. President Cyril Ramaphosa and the other five officials are discussing the decision by the party's national working committee which recommended that Mahumapelo be recalled. This follows numerous allegations against Mahumapelo and the violent service delivery protests.

Clashes between rival gangs in Pollsmoor Prison have left an inmate dead. Another has been seriously wounded. About two weeks ago, two correctional officers were stabbed at the Goodwood Correctional Facility during gang fights. Western Cape Provincial Correctional Services spokesperson, Simphiwe Xako gave us an update on this and other issues of safety.

Challenges currently faced by SABC employees and changes made on certain radio stations were discussed at a meeting between the Parliament's Communications Committee and three SABC unions. The Communication Workers' Union of South Africa (CWU), the Media Workers' Association of SA (Mwasa) and the Broadcasting‚ Electronic Media and Allied Workers Union (Bemawu) made a presentation to the committee in Sandton this morning. The employees at the SABC have over time, raised various concerns about the running and general working conditions at the institution. The Department of Mineral Resources has called on mining companies to prioritise the health and safety of their workers. This comes as rescuers continue to search for 3 missing miners at Sibanye-Stillwater's Masakhane mine in Gauteng this afternoon. Four have died following a seismic event yesterday afternoon, while six are still recovering in hospital. Mine management has denied that lack of proper safety measures has caused the incident saying they have been adhering to stringent safety standards because they are aware that the area is prone to rockfalls. The department set up a team of experts earlier this year which will come up with solutions to minimise deaths due to rockfalls. It says 30 percent of mining fatalities are due to the rockfall. There was seismic event at Kloof Ikamva in Gauteng this year, a worker was crushed to death after a box of gold ore fell on him when blasting. 955 miners were trapped undergound at the company's mine in Welkom but all workers were rescued. A mother of a student at the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth says she is stressed and frustrated due to NSFAS non-payment of her son's fees
