Police Minister Fikile Mbalula has assured the community of Ngcobo in the Eastern Cape that their police station will be upgraded to ensure their safety. Mbalula has been addressing members of the SAPS and the community outside the police station following the killing of five police officers and a retired soldier by unknown gunmen wearing balaclavas on Wednesday morning. Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba says the revenue shortfall of R50bn came in marginally lower at R48 billion for 2017/18. Gigaba has added that the shortfall still reflects poor economic outlook and challenges at revenue organisation, SARS. The contentious issue of labour brokers will now play out in the Constitutional Court. The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) is approaching to the Constitutional Court to argue against what they call slave traders. A 32 year old Sangoma, Thokozani Msibi believed to be from Swaziland, has appeared at Witbank Magistrate in Mpumalanga facing charges of murder, kidnapping and violation of a corpse. He was arrested early this week, in connection with the kidnapping of two children, one of then living with albinism at Kwaguqa near Emalahleni. It is suspected that the motive behind the killing was for muti purposes. SABC Reporter, Mthobisi Mkhaliphi Reports.

Transnet will manufacture 500 passenger trains for Zimbabwe in Ekurhuleni, after it sourced the first 20 from Brazil Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi have unveiled a 400million dollar revitalisation project between Transnet and the National Railways of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo . Consumers will face rising costs following a decision by government to introduce an increase in VAT and a hike in fuel levy from April. Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba announced an increase in VAT from 14 percent to 15 percent from the 1st of April. He says new tax measures to increase VAT and personal income tax will raise an additional 36 billion rand in 2018/19. Government will also introduce spending cuts amounting to 85 billion rand through re-allocations. Tshepo Mongoai reports.
