The Moerane Commission investigating political killings in KwaZulu-Natal, has heard evidence from the DA head of the uMgungundlovu East Constituency, Dean Macpherson, in relation to deaths in the Richmond area of the Midlands. He says the killings of ANC councillor Sifiso Mkhize and municipal manager Sibusiso Sithole are politically-related. He told the commission that at the time of Sithole's assassination the deceased had suspended a Richmond municipality official for irregular expenditure. In Mkhize's case, Macpherson alleges that ANC infighting is behind his killing. Meanwhile, Sithole's wife told the commission she was in the dark regarding police investigations into his death. Sleeping on roadsides in rainy weather has been one of the worst experiences of their lives. That's according to more than a hundred residents - including women, children and the elderly and frail - who have been evicted from housing units at Howell Road at Sydenham - west of Durban. This follows a long-standing dispute with a company managing low cost housing units on behalf of the eThekwini Metro. The residents claim the houses were meant to be RDP government-subsidised houses, but the municipality and First Metro Housing Company are now demanding rent from them. Residents of Burgersdorp and Gavaza villages outside Tzaneen in Limpopo have asked the Fire Prophetic Ministry to leave the area after its leader was arrested for allegedly raping four minors in 2016 and 2017.
