The sale of all live chickens has been banned across the country. The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has put the suspension after avian influenza was detected in a farm in Mpumalanga last week. All affected birds in that farm have since been euthanized. Three weeks ago there was a highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak in Zimbabwe which led to South Africa suspending all trade in chickens from Zimbabwe. The Democratic Alliance's Federal Council meeting has resolved to work towards ensuring that the ANC is removed from power in the 2019 general elections. The two days meeting in Durban tabled policy related issues to be discussed by various structures in the party. Human Settlements Minister, Lindiwe Sisulu, says all provincial Human Settlement Departments will make five percent of their budget available for housing in the Knysna and Plettenberg Bay areas. The memorial service of Namibian freedom fighter, Andimba Toivo ya Toivo will he held in Windhoek in Namibia today. The 92-year-old struggle icon died earlier this month at his home in the capital city. Ya Toivo spent 16 years on Robben Island after the apartheid police convicted him of treason in 1968. The former president of Botswana, Sir Ketumile Masire has passed away at the age of 91. Masire was admitted to the intensive care unit in a Gaborone hospital at the weekend. He led country between 1980 and 1998. He led various diplomatic initiatives in Africa, including chairing a panel that investigated the 1994 Rwanda Genocide, and co-ordinating the Inter-Congolese National Dialogue.
