Backyard dwellers will be among those who will be prioritised by government when giving assistance on housing. This is according to promises by the Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Paul Mashatile when he met with residents of Finetown and Ennerdale yesterday afternoon. The meeting follows recent protests over housing that erupted in the area. Mashatile said there are plans to obtain private land near Finetown as well as government land which will be earmarked for housing development. The fate of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Deputy Mayor, Mongameli Bobani of the UDM, will be decided tomorrow. Some political parties in the coalition government have made it clear that they will oppose any motion that would be tabled in the council on Tuesday seeking to get rid of Bobani. This after the Executive Mayor of the municipality, Athol Trollip, confirmed that he is planning to table a motion that will strip Bobani off his deputy mayor title. Trollip has already fired Bobani from the position of the Head of Public Health in the Mayoral Committee.The tension between the two has spilled over to the parties' national leaders, with UDM leader Bantu Holomisa saying that the axing of Bobani would be against the fundamentals of the coalition. It's now emerged that the reported abduction of jailed Thembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo's brother, Prince Jongisizwe Mthandeni Mankuku, was a hoax. Police in the Eastern Cape went on a wild goose chase on Friday looking for Mankuku after reports that he had been abducted by four men. In a dramatic turn of events, Prince Mankunku told SABCNEWS that he made up the story to get the nation's attention.
