Criminal charges are to be instituted against the driver of the bus that was involved in a crash in which 15 passengers were killed at Kranskop in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands. Metrorail says the damage to eleven of it's train carriages could run into tens of millions of rand. Eight carriages were completely destroyed and three others partially damaged in a fire at the Kraaifontein station yesterday morning. The regional manager of Metrorail Western Cape, Richard Walker, says they are now awaiting an assessment from the loss adjusters, in order to determine an exact amount. Over 600 people have been displaced this Easter weekend after at least seven fires broke out in several informal settlements around Cape Town. Two people have died in separate incidences, and over 200 structures were gutted. Chris Mabuya reports

President Jacob Zuma attributes the ongoing calls for him to step down to his calls for radical economic transformation and accelerated land redistribution to benefit the poor black majority of South Africa. The President was speaking during a service at the Twelve Apostle Church in Christ in Umgababa south of Durban. The church which has about six million followers countrywide, is known to be Zuma's strong support base. The United States has dropped the largest non-nuclear device it has ever unleashed in combat, on a network of caves and tunnels used by Islamic State in eastern Afghanistan. The US defence force is currently evaluating the damage caused when the MC-130 aircraft released the ten-thousand kilogram device against a series of caves and bunkers, alleged to be used by Islamic State. US president Donald trump says the mission was successful.

Minister of Transport, Mr Joe Maswanganyi is calling for the immediate recommencement of bus operations. In a statement, the Minister says the immediate resumption of bus operations should take place while labour and employers are trying to find a permanent solution to the impasse.
