Eskom has confirmed that it will invite bids this week to build nuclear reactors. Government has earmarked nuclear expansion as the centrepiece of a plan to increase power generation and has asked Eskom to procure an additional nine-thousand-600 megawatts of capacity. The Department of International Relations and Co-operation (DIRCO) says claims that the former Vice President of South Sudan, Riek Machar is under house arrest in Pretoria, are not true. Media reports say the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (an eight-country East African group) had asked Pretoria to make sure Machar did not leave. He was previously fired as the Vice President of South Sudan in July 2013. The Head of Public Policy at DIRCO, Clayson Monyela joins us on the line to tell us more.

Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan says 2017 is going to be a difficult year for both political and economic reasons. The Xhosa Royal House has called for an urgent investigation following the death of three initiates in the Western Cape.
