Scores of people have died when a church building collapsed in Nigeria. It is reported that the roof of the church, Reigners Bible Church, caved in on worshippers who had gathered for the ordination of a bishop. Some witnesses have told the media that the church was still under construction and workers had rushed to complete it for the ordination. In 2014, a guesthouse belonging to preacher T.B. The Department of Basic Education says reports that it would now allow junior high school pupils to pass maths if they achieved 20% in the subject are untrue. The department says there is no such thing as a 20% pass mark for mathematics and there has been no change in the progression policy. At least ten youngsters have died in initiation schools in the Eastern Cape. The department of home affairs has emphasised the importance of taking fingerprints of all the people visiting the country, saying there will be finger print readers for foreign nationals when they enter the country. Gigaba has also stressed that the department still demands that tourists travelling to South Africa with children below 18 provide birth certificates. The two men who forced Victor Mlotshwa into a coffin and threatened to shoot him if he ran away have been denied bail by the Middelburg Magistrate's Court. Magistrate Jongilizwe Dumehleli ruled in the case against Willem Oosthuizen and Theo Martin-Jackson - the co-accused - in the so-called coffin assault case. The duo face charges of assault to cause grievous bodily harm, after they assaulted Mlotshwa and forced him into a coffin alive. The case will be back again in court on January 25th. Parliament's Adhoc Committee of Inquiry into the SABC Board's fitness to hold office, will summon SABC Board chairperson Professor Mbulaheni Maguvhe. This comes after he failed to appear before the inquiry. Maguvhe was scheduled to testify in the inquiry yesterday afternoon (thursday 8 December). The Police are appealing to the public for any information that will lead to the arrest of a dangerous criminal who has escaped from Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre in Pretoria. Henry Edema Timaya Onoh was due to be sentenced in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court for various violent crimes such as house robberies, rape, housebreaking and theft. The South African Medical Association (SAMA) is planning to approach the National Bargaining Council to complain about the new overtime policy for public healthcare personnel set out by the Ministry of Health. In a statement, SAMA says these new changes means doctors will work without being properly compensated and will result in their not working overtime. ANC in the Northern Cape has come out in support of former Finance MEC and provincial ANC chairperson, John Block. The party says they still believe in his innocence. Block and Trifecta director Christo Scholtz were sentenced to 15-years imprisonment in the Kimberley High Court on Tuesday. The court found that Block and Scholtz had a corrupt relationship, with Block using his political muscle to secure government lease agreements on behalf of the Trifecta companies, at inflated prices.
