Security forces in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) patrolled the tense streets of Kinshasa on Sunday after the suspension of talks to find a peaceful way out of the nation's political crisis sparked by the end of President Joseph Kabila's mandate. Justice and Correctional Service Minister, Michael Masutha, says South Africa will continue to call for the abolition of the death penalty worldwide. Masutha was speaking during the exhumation of the remains of thirteen members of the PAC's former armed wing, Poqo, who were executed by the apartheid government. They were sentenced to death for killing five white people at the Mbhashe River in the then Transkei in 1963. Masutha pointed out that in present-day South Africa, the right to life is entrenched in the constitution. Maluti Obuseng reports

Two youths have been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing their two female cousins and a toddler in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg. The young men strangled the victims and then submerged their bodies in a bathtub filled with boiling water. The two who were 17 and 21 at the time of the crime - pleaded guilty to three counts of murder, attempted murder and robbery.
