More than half of government health depots and health institutions do not record the medication they dispense to patients or even take the names of the patients they are serving. This is according to Auditor- General Kimi Makwetu's latest audit report on the Department of Health's performance and management of pharmaceuticals. The report also found that some of these health departments overspent on their budgets because they base their budgets on old information instead of doing an actual healthcare needs analysis of citizens. The Department of health says they acknowledge the findings, but a lot has since changed. The Deputy Director General of Health Regulations and Compliance Management at the Department of Health, Dr Anban Pillay joins us on the line to clarify.

Pubic Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown has appointed Matshela Koko as acting chief executive of power utility Eskom. Koko, who is in charge of power generation and has worked at Eskom since 1996. He replaces Brain Molefe who resigned as group chief executive after he was implicated in the former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's "State of Capture" report. Members of parliament have asked the board and management of the Passenger Rail Agency, Prasa, what they are doing to fix the entity's finances. Prasa has been identified by the Auditor General as the worst performing entity with irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure to the tune of 14 billion rand. The board and management of PRASA were appearing before Parliament's standing committee on public accounts (SCOPA) to account for the losses. The Department of Water and Sanitation says dam levels are still a concern across the country despite the recent rainfall. The department has appealed to all South Africans to continue to use water sparingly, and adhere to water restriction measures. Equal Education is taking Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga to court for failing to for failing to provide basic amenities to school. Tuesday was the deadline for the Department of Basic Education to meet the norms and standards for school infrastructure, however, only a few of the nine provincial departments met the set standards. The brutal killing of the "Diamonds" gang boss from Muvhango, outside Vanderbijlpark, has led to revenge killings between two rival gangs. The bloodied body of the young gang boss was found hacked to death by members of rival gang "Mopheme" last month. The killing emanates from an ongoing war between the two gangs in a fight for control of traditional initiation schools in the Vaal area. It's understood that two members from the "Mopheme" gang were also stabbed and hacked to death after the killing of the "diamonds" gang boss.
