Dr Matthew Raphael Johnson revisits the question of Genghis Khan's ethnicity and that of the Mongol Horde
The Mongol conquest and occupation of Russia is one of the most significant events in her history. It is not a minor issue. The problem is that there is very little evidence of a “Mongol Horde” (that is, east Asians) conquering and holding Russia for 200 years. In fact, it is almost zero.
The official story that Dr. Johnson accepted early in his career cannot be sustained. Modern pictures of Genghis Khan show a stereotypical Asian. Descriptions of him in his own time say he was red-haired. Contemporary pictures of clashes between Russians and Mongols show two identical armies. In many of them, it is impossible to tell the two sides apart. Yet, later paintings show Mongols as almost absurdly Asian.
This broadcast adds much more detail to the argument first made in 2021 on Radio Albion
