Byron Graves is Ojibwe and Lakota and was born and raised on the Red Lake Indian Reservation in Minnesota, where they played high school basketball.
When they aren’t writing, they can be found playing retro video games, spending time with their family, or cheering on their beloved Minnesota Timberwolves.
Rez Ball was their debut novel; Medicine Wheels is their second book.

Joey Clift is a Los Angeles-based comedian, TV writer, director, Emmy-nominated producer, and enrolled member of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe.
Joey’s work has been featured in The Washington Post, CNN, Pitchfork, NPR, Dead Meat, and Comedy Central.
As a television writer Joey has written for shows such as the 7x Emmy-nominated Spirit Rangers on Netflix, Molly of Denali and Alma’s Way on PBS, New Looney Tunes and Lego Ninjago: Decoded on Cartoon Network, and Paw Patrol on Nickelodeon.
As a Native American, he grew up on a reservation and went to tribal schools growing up. Now he’s a professional comedy writer.
One of Joey Clift’s most recent projects, an animated short film entitled ‘Pow!’, centers on a young Native American boy who tries to charge his video game console at a large powwow.
Made by a largely indigenous crew and featuring an all Native voice cast, ‘Pow!’ became an Oscar-contender in 2026. Joey Clift's new book, “We've Been Here the Whole Time! A Not So Sacred Guide to All Things Native America" is set to be released October 14, 2026.
