Dennis Dewa is a Zuni Pueblo artist dedicated to preserving his cultural heritage through vibrant and meaningful artwork.

His paintings capture the essence of his Native American roots, blending traditional motifs and iconography with contemporary flairs.

He has also taught art classes to youth at the Zuni Youth Enrichment Program in the Pueblo of Zuni, inspiring the next generation of Native American artists.

Steph Littlebird is an artist, curator, writer, and a registered member of Oregon’s Grand Ronde Confederated Tribes.

As a descendant of the Chinook and Kalapuyan people, Littlebird makes sure that much of her artwork challenges mainstream portrayals of Native people.

As an artist, Littlebird’s work combines traditional aesthetics with contemporary materials and subject matter to forge connections between our collective past and imminent future.

Her works frequently engage issues related to present-day indigenous identities, marginalized histories, and responsible land stewardship.

Esther Belin is the author of two poetry books and coeditor of ‘The Diné Reader: An Anthology of Navajo Literature’.

Belin’s visual art combines a variety of disciplines and works to reframe the mythical primitivism often associated with indigenous cultures.

She is a citizen of the Navajo Nation and a member of ‘Saad Bee Hózhǫ́’, a Diné Writers’ Collective. She teaches in the Native American and Indigenous studies department at Fort Lewis College. In 2025, she was invited by the Poetry Foundation in Chicago to be the guest editor of its March issue dedicated to Diné poetry.

Mily Treviño-Sauceda is an American writer, trade unionist and executive director of ‘Alianza Nacional De Campesinas’, the National Alliance of Farmworker Women, a nonprofit organization advocating for the safety and rights of women laborers in agriculture.

She is celebrated as a founder of the women’s farmworker movement in the United States.

Woody Guthrie’s ‘Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos)’ is a protest song detailing the January 28, 1948 crash of a plane near Los Gatos Canyon,

20 miles (32 km) west of Coalinga in Fresno County, California, United States.

The song honors the Mexican victims, mostly farmworkers, who had been deported, and expresses outrage about a news reel on the radio maligning them as being ‘just deportees’.

Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate is a Chickasaw classical composer and pianist.

His compositions are inspired by North American Indian history, culture, and language.

Among many recent premieres, Tate’s highlights include commissions from the New York Philharmonic and Turtle Island Quartet.

On August 15, 2025, the Dover Quartet released their newest album ‘Abokkoli Taloowa’ (Woodland Songs), which features two new suites of music by Jerod Tate in addition to a string quartet by the late 19th, early 20th century Czech composer Antonín Dvo’ák. ‘Abokkoli Taloowa’ (Woodland Songs) contains five movements, each representing a different woodland creature.

Preceding this composition on the album is Tate’s orchestral arrangement of Tuscarora-Taino singer-songwriter Pura Fé’s ‘Rattle Songs’, a piece in seven movements. Pura Fé is one of the founding members of Ulali, an indigenous women’s group of oral musicians who combine native roots and contemporary styles with vocals, stomping, and rattling turtle shells. Jerod Tate is currently at work on a new violin concerto for acclaimed violinist Irina Muresanu, as well as new works for the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and North Carolina Symphony Orchestra.

Hataałii is a Diné (Navajo) singer, songwriter, and poet born Hataałiinez Wheeler in Window Rock, AZ, the capital of the Navajo Nation.

His name comes from the Navajo term ‘hatałii’, also spelled ‘yataalii’, which means ‘singer’ in English. Singers are medicine men who perform traditional healing ceremonies and blessing rites intended to protect and cure the body, mind, and spirit.

Hataałii's music focuses on obscurantist details giving way to trenchant observations about paranoia, accountability, and postcolonial fallout. Hataałii also confronts the nuanced challenges and perceptions around the indigenous community.

He currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Preston Singletary is a Native American musician glass artist.

He grew up in the Seattle area listening to the stories told by his Tlingit great-grandparents.

His art has become synonymous with the relationship between Tlingit culture and fine art.

His glass sculptures deal with themes of Tlingit mythology and traditional designs, while also using music to shape his contemporary perspective of Native culture.

Preston Singletary is the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions.

He still lives and works in Seattle.

His funk/jazz band Khu.éex’ has just released a double album titled, 'Red Cedar in the Hour of Chaos.', which blends a Funk-inspired sound with hip-hop, doom metal, psychedelia, Tlingit, Haida, and other Native roots and languages.

Daisychain is a female-fronted blues/psych rock band based out of Chicago. Drawing from influences like Patti Smith, Melvins, The Velvet Underground, and Jack White, audiences can expect expressive guitar solos, a dynamic rhythm section, and smoky vocal harmonies all paying homage to a familiar sound.

Their debut album, ‘All In A Name’, has been released June 27, 2025, and was produced by Sylvia Massy, who had worked with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Prince.

The band is currently finishing a tour in the US and will be touring Europe in the fall, starting in late October...

Number of Quechua speakers in Peru, according to one of the most recent official estimates, making it about 13 % of the entire population of Peru.

Americo Mendoza Mori’s Quechua would be a variant or dialect, possibly from the Ica area in Southern Peru or the Peruvian Amazon, two places he mentions in our conversation as part of his background.

Américo Mendoza Mori currently works as a researcher and teacher of Latin American and Indigenous Studies at Harvard University.

His work and research were featured in the New York Times and at the United Nations.

He has also worked as a cultural consultant for Paramount Pictures to introduce dialogues in Quechua in the 2019 movie ‘Dora and the Lost City of Gold’.

Previously he has launched and coordinated the Quechua Language Program at the University of Pennsylvania.

“I speak only some Yanesha.

For example, for dog, we say ‘oochec’.

And, for chicken, we say ‘atóllop’.

So, I know a little, but I don’t know it well.

The Yanesha culture is located in the Amazon rainforest, mostly in the upper regions of the eastern slope of the Andes, in Peru.

The Yanesha language belongs to the larger Arawak language family. It uses words for items the meaning of which is difficult to conceptualize in a European language like Spanish.

An indigenous language like Yanesha is deeply intertwined with many cultural traditions.
