Jay Saenz Jay Saenz holds two titles at Oliver Russell in Boise—Digital Marketing Manager and Helmsman for Good. His latest project is taking plastic that would typically end up in the waste stream and making it into durable, usable products at the new company PlasticWorks. Since its inception just seven short weeks ago, the company has built the machinery necessary to create real products from our un-recyclable waste. He showed up to the studio with a compelling tile that was surprisingly attractive and sat down with us to talk shop and the philosophy of socially conscious entrepreneurship that drives him to do good work. Jay got into digital marketing by accident and landed his job at Oliver Russell by way of an art installation. He serendipitously met Russ Stoddard while working on a large scale black and white portrait project years ago. He says that he spent 40 minutes with every person he photographed for the endeavor and Russ inspired him with his vision of using capitalism as a force for good. Ultimately, Jay says the company fit perfectly with his personal ethos and he felt like it was the right opportunity to scale up his beliefs.   PlasticWorks is just one of the many projects currently underway at Oliver Russell and Jay tells us that the company is a driving force in promoting future fitness for businesses of all sizes. Jay’s position at the company requires that he constantly stay up to date on the latest trends in progressive business ideas. He helps ensure the company is continually living up to its values of creative collaboration and socially responsible, progressive business policies.

Mark and Jeanette Priddy Mark and Jeanette Priddy are the founders and owners of Happy Day Brands, a food product company built on the tenets of social entrepreneurship and change. For every product purchased across their brand, Happy Day donates one meal to a family in need. The couple relocated to Eagle, Idaho 25 years ago after deciding they didn’t want to raise their kids in California. They’ve since grown multiple businesses founded on strong beliefs regarding building communities and giving back. Before establishing Happy Day Brands, the couple owned and operated the popular Rembrandt’s coffee house in Eagle, where they say they were able to “cut their teeth on the idea of social entrepreneurship.” They also ran a community center catering to at-risk teens that was eventually absorbed by the YMCA.

Karen Morrison

Nine years ago this December in Ketchum, Idaho, Karen Morrison was working as an assistant to a physical therapist. It was there that she met a young woman named Amanda, a talented athlete who had been a four-sport rookie of the year at Yale when she was in a terrible car accident that left her completely unable to use the left side of her body. The physical therapist she was working for asked Karen to do some exercises with Amanda in the water. She says “We both got kind of bored, so we slowly started working on swimming…we came up with a unique way for her to swim with only her right arm and right leg.” Amanda’s natural athletic tendencies pushed the physical therapy into serious training and the two ended up attending a national Paralympic swim meet. It was this experience—seeing all those athletes pushing themselves and feeling good about their bodies—that ultimately made her start AquAbility.
