December 2nd marked the official start of the holiday season in the tiny, isolated mountain village of Kaslo.

It also happened to be the day we received our first, perfectly timed heavy snowfall of Winter '23—'24.

The day began with the annual Christmas Craft Fair at the Kaslo Legion. Vendors and shoppers were joined by members of Kaslo's Kuimba Choir who, accompanied by conductor Tamara Sunsong, performed a handful of seasonal gems. 

The day ended with a delightful Light Up Parade down Front Street, Kaslo's main (and only) drag. The village's historic downtown was swarming with families, including lots of kids waiting anxiously to let Santa know what they'd like under the tree this year.

Today's Radio Free Kaslo captures all of that. Toss in some seasonally appropriate music by Voctave Chorale and Loreena McKennit, and you have a charming slice of small town holiday celebration.

Or the unmistakable seasonal smells of wet, fallen leaves, of the few remaining apples neglected by humans and bears alike.
