Saturday November 12 is the opening reception for St1tch: Red, a quilt and textile arts show at the Red Herring Lounge. These are not your grandmother's quilts. This week I thought we might take a road trip up the North Shore to see what’s happening at the Grand Marais Art Colony. On Friday Oct 28 it's the the Annual Member show and on November 10 the Art Colony co-sponsors the Annual Empty Bowl fundraiser to combat hunger in Cook County. The Tweed Museum of Art is hosting The Folger Library 400 year Anniversary tour of Shakespeare's First Folio this month and we all have one more week to see it on display here in Duluth. The first folio will move out on Wednesday October 26 but the accompanying shows will continue through the year.

This week on Radio Gallery we head downtown Duluth to share some very friendly watercolor paintings, up at the Lake Superior Bakehouse for October. The Duluth Art Institute opened 3 new shows this month in the Morrison and Steffl Galleries. The three local artists sharing the gallery space this fall are Brent Kustermann with his latest work "From the Basement," David Asher Everett with sculptural social commentary in "Rust & Flow" and "Fragment/Memory" the work of Adam McCauly. Minnesota painter Dan Wiemer joins us this week on Radio Gallery as he prepares for a week on the North Shore at the Grand Marais Art Colony for Plein Air Grand Marais , September 9 - 16, 2016. The current exhibit Domestic Space at the UMD Tweed Museum of Art is a collection of work by the classically trained painter Jeffery T. Larson.
